This is what I was looking at tonight around 7:30 PM. Several hundred acres of The Western District. Very very close to where Victorias first/earliest settlers settled. Those bloody Hentys. My Nan always claimed that our lot helped the Hentys get their luggage off the boat.
My farmer is interstate so I went round the boundary at 7:30 to make sure no cattle were on the road. Noticed a sign flat on the ground, face down.
Should have stopped to read it and restore it because halfway along the hillside road there had been a serious landfall.
Woops. Think Top Gear in Bolivia who would have been laughing as they roared along the remote and narrow unstable precipice.
So of course I came up behind the sign at the other end of the road, the one that everybody else just went around. Sigh. Obviously there are other road users but I saw none of them. Total peace and quiet and fresh fresh air.
For contrast, earlier, at 11 AM I was 40 kms away in town seeing the Absolutely Fabulous movie and I thought it was. Edina finally having some kind of realisation about her shallow life pool as her grand-daughter picks up the fashionista baton. All the fun of vicious comment/observation on puerile media frenzy and every other societal sin "we're in the south of France darling, everyone's a criminal", and "Kate Moss has never been so in-demand as since she went missing", a Princessian mountain of flowers at the crash site, with a collection of plush toys and childish portraits of Moss [and a pair of Hunter wellies with Glasto mud on them], with Edina reprising her star turn 'falling out of a car', and Hotel Du Cap, Nobu, Jean Paul Gaultier in several scenes as a Riviera beach fossicker, Bubble the dippy PA in the background laughing as she read a book by Friedrich Nietzsche. Star turns by Rebel Wilson as an Air Hostess, Joan Collins, funny Jerry Hall, her daughter Georgia, Lily Cole, and Barry Humphries playing a now aged old flame of Patsy Stones in his best Sir Les Patterson lewdity, and I am sure I saw John Galliano pass by. I now know that they all mouth 'Thurrssday' when cameras appear.
There was an Al Wei Wei joke, book publisher jokes, and poor Lulu was trashed rotten as always. The only time the other 5 women in the audience laughed was at the 'discomfort of unknowingly eating wasabi' scene. The script was only as shallow as the viewers cultural frame-of-reference. I was impressed by the choice of Janis Ian At 17 [a commentary on society's beauty standards] for Saffy to sing in a gay club and leave them all in tears. Her wonderful "duck saliva" response [in the Hearst Corporation EYE magazine which was as close to the legendary UK NOVA as the USA could get] to the moronic interview question that passed for record promo - "what is your favourite beauty product?" has been a treasured memory of mine.
I was amused that the Coming Feature trailer was for The First Monday In May a documentary about the very people "we MUST have Rihanna" that Ab Fab was ridiculing. There was some serious cast overlap too.
No muddy roads in either film.
My no-shades-of-grey day.

Hot in the city tonight
'Hot town, summer in the city back of my neck getting dirty and gritty' *
Maybe we all need to be watching every film about people who are snowed-in: Christmas In Connecticut, Ice Station Zebra, Jeremiah Johnson, Nanook Of The North, or Downhill Racer and documentaries on Shackleton in the Antarctic, while the aircon is roaring across the state.
Pinboards devoted to cats, kittens, cowboys, cottages, castles, costumes, models, and OTTERS. It may be that otters outnumber Elvis Marilyn Audrey and LOTR pins. Oh yes it can be as mindless as it is enriching. Sourcing images has sent me off on delirious educational historical tangents, or after Ruthven Todd's Space Cats books. For an instant involuntary chuckle go here and enter Space Cats in the search box. Pinners devote a board to their particular interest, and there are some interesting people out there.
Shoes are big, and commenters who say "OMG Shoes!!!" Actually someone may have put up a new shoe image like the Jimmy Choo Ugg boots selling at $1000 to very cashed-up bogans indeed so I have to get back to Pinterest now ... X X AOD
*was written by John Sebastian and his brother, Mark, as a high school assignment for which he got
an ‘F’.
When John became the singer of the Lovin' Spoonful, the Kama Sutra label recorded and released it and it was 3 weeks at #1 on the Billboard chart that summer of 1966.
I hope that F marker noticed.
PS actually there might be more interior design than cats, check this carwash bedroom -
Wishing you all a cool breeze.

Bat-immobile

Clearly Batmobiles do not function in daylight on
Nepean Highway, Moorabbin.
My photo, c.1990, using Nikon SLR and I could just spit for missing the front end like that.
While I am in some other world, the car is now at Movieworld QLD.
Anton Furst got the Oscar award for his production design on the 1989 Tim Burton batmovie and this particular vehicle.

Things are quiet Chez O'Dyne, out in the paddocks looking after 3 cats (and one can open doors), and a very furry dog which is shedding it's coat. Apparently German Shepherd people refer to this as "blowing their coat". It's everywhere and the ducted vacuuming just blew up.
Mainly it's quiet because I am recovering from being 'flamed' by a grouchy relative who doesn't approve of my posts.
If you are reading this you must be on the list of bloggers allowed by the last time AOD went under the radar.
Life is too brief to be bothered with people who bring nothing but aggravation.
Batman thinks so as well. He has left his busted Batmobile to the pit crew above and flown away. Haunted creatures of the night and aren't we all.

| "but Daddy I don't like Thetans" |
The whole sad thing is an undeserved gift for the MSM though.
Somebody with more time than I have, has noted that all 3 Cruise wives split at age 33, and the web is filling with bust-up gags already, and even Rupert Murdoch has Tweeted his opinion of teh evil that is $cientology.
I think Rupe has heard the stuff Nic is not allowed to say publicly, because I read a long while ago in Vanity Fair that Nicole is pals with Wendi Dengdoch and that her Grace and Chloe have playdates with Sunday Urban. Rupert must be just bustin to print it though.
All the criticism of Suri's appearance, is because the $cientols bring their kids up weirdly (Will Smith's kids have piercings now and they are only 13) and Katie Holmes is obviously wanting some 'normal' for her daughter and we don't blame her.
Finally, as it's an ill wind indeed that blows no good at all - the blogger who wrote Suri's Burn Book must be thrilled that the breakup has coincided with publication of the blog's book:
Suri Tweets: @surisburnbook
* Going barefoot in Paris is like showing up to the Oscars in a denim miniskirt. I mean you, Blue Ivy.
* The ONE thing Kate Middleton's future baby will be able to help me with is taking the Queen down a peg or two. God, she loves attention
*Today is Shiloh Pitt's birthday. It's too bad good taste can't be gift-wrapped -- I would have gotten her a present.
and my favourite:
* "Angelina's Maleficent film comes out in March 2013. In the meantime, you can watch E! footage from the year she stole Jen Aniston's husband."

Shrimp is no Barbie
These are my VOGUE stacks, going back to 1969 and the issues from 1970 to 1973 are in handsome navy red and gold stamped VOGUE binders.
Jean Shrimpton is on many of the covers, and while the girly 1960's are typified by MOD culture evolving, the concurrent prevailing 'look' was known as 'DollyBird' and she was their goddess.
A film has been made based on the early part of her career when she went to New York City for a VOGUE shoot with David Bailey. I won't be seeing it, and the publicity will irritate me, but I have all these
for my Shrimp fix instead. She is a recluse now and I don't blame her one bit.
Meanwhile, over at WORN OUT it is Flamingo Park time so please visit.

@RustyRockets
He wrote a genuine (no ghost writer) autobiography, My Booky Wook, which is more than most of them can claim.
He was brilliant to stand-out from a stand-out bunch in the recent St.Trinians movie.
He does stand-up comedy.
He basically played himself in Forgetting Sara Marshall and stole the movie.
Not only could he look like Jaqueline Onassis if he tidied up, but also, he has a website - RussellBrand.com. He has just bought a house in Beverly Hills with Katy P so I would not be surprised if he does clean up his appearance. That's what happened to Billy Connolly when he moved there. LA will do that to you. Both of them obsessive character types (Mr Connolly is a recovering alcoholic) and another one is also one of my favourite dark funny clever bad boys Robert Downey Jnr. Of course if you're reading this, you may have an obsession with your keyboard/ISP nexus, and don't look to me for help either.
This post inspired by a discussion on obsessions at Elisabeth's SixthInLine blog.

Blogger On A Cast Iron Balcony
Overlooking the marina at Cannes 1976. This photograph shows a person who has just eaten their first ever croissant, and bowl of milk coffee. Later that day she did a favour for Rockin Reggie Vincent who played on 'School's Out' and he hugged her. Not a bad Brush-With-Fame. Please tell me all about yours ...

Fairytale Audrey
A booky-blogger - Me and my big mouth, says this is his favourite photo of St.Audrey of Hepburn and he gets no argument from me

He also mentions Harry Lime as swine:

Harry Pigg, the only surviving brother from the Big Bad Wolf attacks, has set up business as a private detective in Grimmtown, only things aren't going too well.
Down on his luck, with bills to pay and no clients in sight the outlook is poor.
But then in walks local businessman Aladdin who needs someone to help him track down an old lamp.
What follows is a case of nursery-rhyme noir.
Funny, thrilling and always entertaining, Harry Pigg is an old breed of hero for a new generation.
It's as if Humphrey Bogart or James Cagney had walked into the middle of a bedtime story. A comedy caper for all ages. The first in a major new series.
The author, Bob Burke lives in Ireland. This is his first novel.
(That's the book-rap at Amazon.com and it appears to be suitable for children of all ages)

Out to sea - Rhys and me
In 1964 my favourite music was by Little Walter, Howlin Wolf, SonnyBoy Williamson and Junior Wells. How does this come about in a baby girl in rural Victoria? Via The Beatles and the Rolling Stones mentioning those artists in press interviews of course.
By 1966 I was in the big city and 'Rhythm and Blues' was the Mod musical currency. Soul baby.
So yesterday, 43 years later, enthralled by the 129 wonderful minutes of The Boat That Rocked, and recognising two bars of Junior Wells's 'Snatch It Back And Hold It' ... underscoring a plot point perfectly, I just felt 17 again
Mods Gods featured in this film -
All Day And All Of The Night - Dave & Ray Davies
Friday On My Mind - Easybeats (Vanda & Young)
We Gotta Get Outta This Town - Eric Burdon & The Animals
For Your Love -The YardBirds
Dancin In The Street - Martha & The Vandellas
These Arms Of Mine - Otis
Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) -Darlene Love
The Stones - Lets Spend The Night Together,
Jimi Hendrix,
and of course Miss Dusty Springfield.
To me, a negative Movie Show review is just a challenge.
Xan somebody reviewing for The Guardian called it 'pallid'.
Variety-the-showbiz-bible, said it was 'too long'.
WHAT WOULD ANY OF THEM KNOW?
None of them was a hip Mod teen in Melbourne 1966.
The Boat That Rocked was wonderful.
Nighy was wonderful.
Rhys Ifans was wonderful.
The music was wonderful.
The editing was too.
The 129 minutes not too long for anybody who first heard all that music when it was in it's chronological cultural context. Please do treat yourself to this film, and don't waste your money by expecting it to be a documentary, as it is in the mold of an Ealing comedy, the popular cinema of that era. It has a nod to Richard Lester's Sixties cinema-style. You will recognise that dippy secretary of Doc Martin's in it, it has Ken Branagh positively CHANNELLING Ealing comedy-era Peter Sellers characterisation in
I'm Alright Jack-
Ken is cast as the meanie again - he was the bad guy in the St.Trinian's film - is it because nobody likes him?
Did I mention that Rhys Ifans and Philip Seymour Hoffman give us Academy Award-winning performances?.
Rhys may have been catalytically-converting his angst over silly-Sienna, and the plot gives a nod to that kind of thing. You won't be seeing her in any Richard Curtis films I can tell you now.
Rhys plays a cool DJ.
Melbourne Mods didn't suffer the deprivation of London's.
We had a cool DJ and in 1964 all hip 5th-Formers had transistor radios in their schoolbags so we could listen daily at 4:30 pm. Melbourne's cool DJ was
Mr Stan 'The Man' Rofe.
He played the hip stuff.
Stan would have just loved
The Boat That Rocked.
You will love it too.
Don't get up when the credits roll, sit and let
STAY WITH ME BABY
roll over you like a train.
Corey Maxson Tucker says:
"In 1965 Frank Sinatra was slated to record this but cancelled due to illness. Lucky for us, the studio and orchestra were booked and paid for allowing back-up singer Lorraine Ellison to step in.
Ellison unequivocally slays this track. Ellison's version starts with a calculated and soothing build up. The Janis Joplin cover crashes right into the pathos. Yet both renditions stop you in your tracks – Ellison and Joplin display a rare power to erupt in an
utter and desperate longing.
If these songs don’t make you emote and empathize with the singers,
then you are clearly dead inside and have a heart two sizes too small."
I am going to see this Mod-fest movie again.
